I think for nearly two years I have been blogging and helping out on the Hi Site. It had been pretty amazing helping everyone out. I also do love to talk so blogging is a perfect way to channel that!
Being a blogger not only as a job is a great way of connecting with the students and getting to know you guys. I like to chat and help out where I can, being a new student is pretty daunting and there are always questions to be asked. But those questions are vital and need to be asked, and I enjoy being the one to help out.
Anyway, I look forward to another year of questions and comments J Viki x

On a nice autumn morning what a lovely place to spend my day is at the Peak District and to make my day ever better I spent the day climbing. The Peak District isn’t too far away from Edge Hill and has some great hiking and climbing opportunities.
Luckily I managed to catch good weather it was nice and sunny with a light breeze a perfect day for climbing. As we walked to froggat – the area we were going to climb at we passed lots and lots of hikers. Which made me think it be a great place to bring Edge Hill Outdoor Club to go on a few hikes and trips out.
I had a great day of climbing with a friend and managed to really push myself on some particularly hard climbs. I noticed that many other university groups had their clubs down which was great to see, a definite aim for the Edge Hill Outdoor Club. Watch this space! See what you can get involved in at university! Viki J x

Most amazing smoothie/lunch place ever! If you are ever in Ormskirk and fancy a drink or a bite to eat you have to pop into this little restaurant. I was introduced to Blue Juice and Java by a friend, who I am very grateful for introducing it for me.
All the smooties are made from 100% fruit and it really does make you feel like your drinking health in a glass! All the food is prepared on site and tastes really nice. The menu includes, pannis, bagels, sandwiches, pasts, pizzas, breakfasts and lots more.
They also to chocolate bars flavoured milkshakes – such as a milkeway milkshake. I have yet to try these and look forward to it. Furthermore, as an extra little incentive they have a rewards card where you can get a free smoothie or a coffee after so many purchases. I really would recommend trying it! Viki J x

As you may know my course Primary Education, is made up from time in university and time in placement. Now that I am in my final year I start placement from semester one. Very excitingly I have already met my new class who I will play teacher too for quite a long period of time nearer to the end of the school year.
The school is extremely friendly and the children seem really nice. Now that I am in Year Three I feel quite confident about getting down to teaching. At the moment as I am only visiting once a week so I am concentrating on getting to know my class and teacher how the school works.
I am sure all you first year teachers are feeling nervous about teaching but honestly don’t worry too much, Edge Hill will provide you with the tools to make you a great teacher. Anyway must get on with my preparation and getting on with my placement tasks. Viki J x

Bored? Can’t be bothered going out?
Singstar – is the answer! Oh it really is! Singstar is basically a Karaoke game for Play station! (I am sure you might be able to play it on something else!) You can get all different types of singstar games – you have the usual girl and boys bands but they also have themed singstar like Queen, Abba, Rock, Disney, Take That, Pop Songs etc!
You can play with up to eight players! So I bet that will cover most of your house/flat mates. You can have mini competitions as the game gives you scores at the end of each song. You don’t have to sing on your own you can sing with a pair or a group! The game provides the music, the videos, the words all you have to do is sing along – or at least try to haha and see who comes out on top!
It is pretty funny and it’s a great start to a night if you’re going out later – it really puts you in the grove! If you really want you can re-enact your fav pop stars and songs! It is just an idea for doing something when you’re bored! Viki J x
p.s. You can buy packs which provide the microphones, and the discs that will set it all up!

We send regular updates on our facebook group EDGE HILL OUTDOOR CLUB! We love to have new faces get involved as the committee are now all third years we need to pass the club on to some new willing members!

BMC – Wales
Through being a member of Edge Hill Outdoor Club and the BMC, British Mountaineering Council I got to go on one amazing student seminar! It was all about safety and good practice in the outdoors which is essential to something like the outdoors club!
Not only did me and another member of the club learn lots of new things we gained some great contacts and opportunities. Societies and sports teams don’t just look good on your CV you can get lots and lots of opportunities and skills out of them!
The skills we took from the seminar in Wales, we will then pass on to the rest of the club to make sure we adopt safe practices! I had a great weekend climbing and learning new skills. There was also a bit of time for competitions and social activities which mainly led us to going out to the pub.
It was great to see how other outdoors/climbing/hiking clubs were ran and how we can adopt the same practices! If you’re interested in getting involved in a society or a sport, head down to the SU to see what’s on offer! There is something for everyone – you can always start your own society if you like! Get involved – it pays off and you get lots out of it! Viki J x

Liverpool One Food
Out in Liverpool? Doing a bit of shipping? Why not grab a bite to eat? Now that Liverpool has a new shopping centre it has a range of new shops and restaurants. Me and a couple of friends went to have a look around the shops and were overwhelmed by all the different restaurants they were. They were all different types of cuisine to choose from.
Here is a list of restaurants I spotted on they way – Cafe Rouge, YeeRah, Las Iguanas, Pret A Manger, Wagamama, Yo!Sushi, Pesto, Dinomat, Zizzi and many more! (and all your typical restaurants – pizza hut etc!).
We ate at Yee Rah which was a really nice restaurant and I will recommend it too you guys! Liverpool has just as many shops so while you’re here at Edge Hill University a day out in this amazing city is needed! Viki J x

Hey,
Interested in the Outdoors? Well come along to our first meeting!!!
Right important information – our first meeting of the year –
Monday 12th October at 5pm in the B003 (the new shiny business building – ground floor)
(You can sign up for the minibus on this date to reserve your place to climb – we will also be introducing ourselves and organising some bits and bobs)
First Climbing meet – Monday 19th October at 5.45pm outside the security office – please be aware it will be first come first serve and notice will have to be given.
OTHER VERY IMPORTANT INFOMATION! (COSTS)
Before you can climb you must buy a Student Union Activities Card – this allows you to be joined up to the Students Union for Societies and you can join any society with this card and know you’re insured. I will bring application forms to the meeting or you can pick them up with at the SU – they are £3 and you need to go to the SU with that and have your picture taken!!!! You are not allowed to use the minibus without them!
Climbing Membership – after three times of climbing you now have to pay a one off membership fee of £15 this covers your BMC Insurance which covers you when you climb and hike. The rest of the money will support the kit we are currently buying. (You can purchase this at the meeting if you want).
Last cost is your fee into the climbing wall and minibus petrol costs – bring £3 along to the meeting if you want to reserve your mini bus seat for next Monday!
I do understand costs are quite high but they mostly are one off and it will support the clubs development!!
One last thing - Join ‘Edge Hill Outdoor Club’ please on facebook as message will be sent from there! Please reply to this.
Thanks, Edge Hill Outdoor Team.
Get Involved! Viki
